in june 2009 i had an exhibit of my paper dolls called “let’s all live happily ever after”. i am now showing the dolls here, one at a time, and telling their stories. check out my art page for more. dolls are available as art prints and cards through redbubble.com and printed on tote bags, mugs and magnets at zazzle.com
i listen to my heart
i know where i am going
i know what i am doing
i love this paper doll and it is really speaking to me today. i’m feeling a litle unsure, have no many opportunities and ideas and possibilities in front of me – which one do i take first? where do i start? do i even have enough energy for all of this?
and i keep thinking about this doll. stop. listen. the answer is always there when we listen. this is one of the first paper dolls i made. at some point, something happened to the eyes, they got smeared, the white wasn’t bright white. i tried to fix it and it just didn’t look right. i loved everything else about the doll so i made new eyes and stuck them on top. i really like this, gives it another dimension and the new eyes are larger than the original eyes. but the new eyes were smeared a bit too. the white isn’t quite quite, it is tinged with pink.
i work intuitively when i do paper dolls. i’m not trying to make anything make sense or look a certain way. normally i wouldn’t even try to “fix” something like the smeared eyes but they were really bothering me. when they turned out smeared the second time i just left the doll for a while and when i came back to it, i saw that they were perfect. when we’re really listening to our heart and wiling to do what it says, there are going to be tears involved. the strength to follow your heart comes from being willing to be present with your feelings. this is a paper doll that is not afraid to cry. the part of me that doesn’t want to cry doesn’t want to make paper doll that cries either. the part of me that knows better does it anyway. i love the way creativity connects me to that wiser voice inside me.
