putting all my eggs into one beautiful bowl

Post image for putting all my eggs into one beautiful bowl

it’s thursday, almost a week since i got back, and i am still not quite “myself” yet – i’m still not sleeping well, i’m tired and kind of fuzzy, and i get irritated and bored easily.

through this, i keep learning more about being gentle with myself and trusting the process.

i will be my sparkly happy energetic self again.

i know that right now i am not only adjusting to being back in this time zone, i am integrating the adventures and discoveries i made while i was away. it feels like nothing is happening but actually beneath the surface, everything is happening.

one thing i did while in cappadocia, turkey, was tour a pottery factory that was located in a cave.  caves have a constant temperature of 13-17 degrees (celcius) which apparently make them a perfect place for potting.  i had noticed beautiful pottery in the grand bazaar in istanbul.

so it was cool to see where some of that came from!  and it looked like a great place to work – the women painting the pottery (it was all freehand) looked like they really enjoy what they do.  i’d never seen a factory with such happy people in it before.  i did buy a few little bowls there, it would have been nice to get some big ones but i did a lot of shopping and my bags were pretty full already at this point.

another thing i really loved about turkey was the breakfasts.  in istanbul, every morning i sat here:

breakfast on the terrace

breakfast on the terrace

this terrace looked out over istanbul, the bospherous and the asian coast. so beautiful.  (the bospherous straight goes through istanbul and divides europe and asia) the breakfast was so amazing – fresh breads and buns, cheese, eggs, veggies, fruit, fresh jams, yogurts and all sorts of dried fruits, nuts and granolas, spanikopota with spinach, potato and dill, potato and cheese and just cheese, all sorts of cakes and baking (many of them dipped in chocolate!), bananas wrapped in crepes, delicious teas, lattes and espressos, and they would bring us our very own pitcher of freshly squeezed pomegranate and orange juice.

it was like waking up to heaven every morning.

and one small thing i took from that, other that just luxuriating in the experience of it, was that i really like hard boiled eggs and they are a great way to get some protein in the morning (i don’t eat enough protein).  so i decided to start keeping hard boiled eggs in my fridge so they are ready for me.  and here they are, hard boiled eggs in my turkish bowl:

i really love opening the fridge and seeing this there.  it feels like some of the luxury and beauty of my turkish breakfasts is right here in my kitchen.  and as i said, it feels like nothing is happening but actually beneath the surface, everything is happening.

Welcome back! Those breakfasts have me drooling! And the bowls are gorgeous!

Dye the hard boiled eggs and everytime you open the fridge you’ll be drawn to the pretty colors! :)

Continental breakfasts are the best!! I used to love cheese and jam in a crusty roll when I went to Turkey….nice!! To me the bazaars are like a wonderland full of riches. Did you see the wall hangings and fabrics, they are beautiful. xx

Hi,
I have been reading your blog for some time and really enjoy it. I love the pictures of the bowls, actually, I wouldnt mind having one of each color and pattern. When I came back from Morocco, I had a hard time adjusting. I came back home around 10pm and was up the next morning at 5am, which is unheard of for me. You will be back to normal in a few days.
