it’s my birthday!
every year on my birthday i spend some time with my journal. i had a blast doing my birthday journaling this year:

as i played around on the page i really marveled at how good this birthday feels for me. most years this has been kind of a long examination of what happened over the past year and looking forward at what i want to do with my next year as i re-commit to my creative self.
this year that doesn’t feel necessary. i wrote everything i felt over on the left: i love where i am. i love where i’m going. let’s party. that’s how my life feels right now.
i love so much about this page. i love the way it all came together and felt so good to do. it felt like a celebration. i love that the edges are kind of grungy and the bright turquoise background doesn’t cover them completely. there are rough patches and there’s no need to cover that up. they are part of the celebration too.
the last thing i added to the page was the sparklies – the stars and cat faces. i found them in my grandma’s condo when i was there last week cleaning stuff out. i remembered that years ago i sent her a card with the sparklies inside it. she’d put them all into a ziplock bag and saved them. and now they’re sitting on my art table, ready to sparklify my journal pages.
maybe it’s because i no longer have grandparents, maybe it’s because it’s just time – but for the first time i’m starting to feel like an adult. i am 36 today. (every time i try and type it comes out 26 though) it feels adult in a really good way. like i’m feeling ready to step into myself more fully.
so, i love my birthday this year. on the weekend i had a karaoke party, here i am singing up a storm:

another thing to love about my birthday is that with my interview with the creative and soul nourishing jamie ridler is being aired today!! we had a really beautiful chat about creative living that i am super happy to share with you! you can listen on her blog or subscribe to her podcast for all sorts of creative goodies.
and tonight i’m having birthday dinner at my favourite restaurant, affinity vegetarian garden in winnipeg. yum!

Happy, Happy Birthday!! You deserve the best day!!! I laughed when you wrote that when you type 36 it wants to come out as 26. I had the same problem in my late 30′s–I never felt the number of years that I’ve been on this earth! I still dont’ feel my “age”, whatever that’s “supposed” to feel like.
And…I guess…as you know…I could use some butt-kicking (gentle) so am interested in taking you up on your coaching offer.

Happy Birthday! I’m glad I caught this blog today, how beautiful:) I’ve kept a diary forever, and used to put collages in it–I’m going to have to look at your blog more when I get a chance and check out your creativity kits and such. I love the idea of artistic journaling! I think pictures are a great way to get access to the ideas and insights of one’s creative side of the brain. I just changed to keeping a private diary online, and I don’t know how i feel about it. Though I’m a faster typer, it’s very plain, and not the same as having that connection of doodles and pen on paper. I hope you have a wonderful day! ~Molli
