i talk a lot about comfort zones. they are so fascinating to me. it’s like we build these little boxes to live in to stay small and safe but then we slowly discover that when we make our lives small and safe we are not just keeping danger out – we are keeping our dreams and our heart’s desires out. and then the comfort zone starts to become less comfortable.
right now i’m at the part where my comfort zone is actually miserably uncomfortable. i feel like i have outgrown it in every way that it can be outgrown. like alice in wonderland (omg i loved the movie and her clothes especially!) this room is too damn small and my muscles are aching from being cramped in here. literally. i am sore. so i booked some time at my favourite spa – but i couldn’t get in until friday. what to do until ten?
so i painted it:
i put a big blob of back paint on page and the swirled my brush through it and wrote out everything that i was thinking and feeling. writing on top of things, in every direction, just letting it all flow out.
this is really tricky stuff. we can’t just barrel through a comfort zone. i mean we can. but the results of that are no more comfortable than staying inside is. we’ve got to move at our own individual perfect pace, the pace that all parts of us can feel good with. the scared parts, the small parts, the wounded parts, the excited parts, the shiny parts. omg so much packing to do to get everyone on board at the same time.
so that’s where i am.
and i would not trade this discomfort for anything.
every time i have been here i have broken down parts of my comfort zone and opened up amazing new possibilities for how i live my life. hard work but completely worthwhile.
and then this week’s wishcashing wednesday asks what fun do you wish to have?
fun?
i just kind of sat with that and it came to me.
fun is healing.
i do need some fun.
i am so grateful for to be a part of this online world where we remind each other of these things.
so today i wish to have fun that is soft and gentle and soothing and healing.

I borrowed one of your statements….it made a big impression upon me. As Andrea wishes for herself, I wish for her also.
As Andrea wishes for herself, so I wish for her also.
As Andrea wishes for herself, so I wish for her also. You know, I really needed to hear about fun being healing. Talk about something I needed to be reminded of today! Thank you!
This is great Andrea! I was at a presentation last week where the speaker talked about the ruts/grooves that are carved in country roads through cars going the same way all the time. And our comfort zone is like the road–doing the same thing over and over. It takes a bit of effort but with perseverence and courage, change is possible–and you help with that! Thanks!

I just love this! Healing can be graceful, quick and full of love…and in service to greater experiences coming forward.

Fun that is soft and gentle and healing sounds perfect. There are all types of fun and it great when we know exactly which type is best for us at each particular moment. As Andrea wishes for herself, I wish for her as well.

I’ve been stretching my self beyond my comfort zone creatively and it is uncomfortable my freeing too!
This is a lovely post reminding us that growth usually means expanding. I agree that our comfort zones can get too small and it can happen any time! Recognizing that you’ve grown past your box and moving on or out creatively can be hard and knowing that is the problem can some times be harder than fixing it!
Cheers!
thanks ruthie and stephanie!
