Creativity injects Journaling with magic and possibility.
Seriously – magic and possibility!
I have been a journaler for many years. I have boxes and boxes filled with journals. And do you know what those journals are filed with?
Mostly Bitching and Moaning.
Oh Poor Me. I Wish This Was Different. I Wish That Was Different. Ohhhh this hurts. Ohhh that hurts. Why Is Everything So Freaking Hard?
I tended to go to my journal when I was feeling less than sparkletastic.
I got how important journaling was. I needed that place to dump that garbage. But I also thought… shouldn’t there be more to it?
So I explored. I read all sorts of inspiring journaling books. I started to really understand the value of the journal beyond the dumping ground. I made a point of using my journals for more than just bitching.
And my journals started to balance out. Complaining and searching, bitching and exploring ways to create something new.
My journal became a tool + an ally in creating positive change in my life.
And then the magic happened. I started bringing some art supplies with me into my journaling time. Just using a few different coloured markers at first. Glitter gel pens. Maybe a few doodles.
And then there was an explosion of creativity.
Out came the paints. Old magazines were cut up and collaged into my journals.
And my journals became injected with magic and possibility.
I still dump whatever needs to be dumped into my journals. But now those icky feelings aren’t just dumped – they get processed. Now they merge with layers and layers of self discovery and exploration, intuitive wisdom and guidance, love, healing and transformation.
As my Grandpa would say: Now we’re Cooking with Gas.
And then I move into being able to use my journal as a tool for actually creating my life.
Planning maps. Building paths to my dreams. Working through the obstacles. Deciding where I want to go and how I am going to get there.
And it’s something everyone can do!
As I started teaching Creativity Workshops I found that everyone, literally everyone, benefits from Creative Journaling. Even people with absolutely no experience “being creative” or using art supplies.
Artists and creative people tend to dive right in and play and start to unravel the mystery and beauty and meaning of Creative Journaling.
People who don’t feel creative tend to take baby steps. But each little baby step is so full of magic.
Either way, it’s like Creative Glitterbombs going off everywhere.
Sparks. Insights. Magic.

When i first started sharing my journals on my blog, i was approaching my blog posts like a creative journaling workshop. I have since become much more casual with it, but you can read back to the introduction to the creative journaling workshop for more info about how I approach creative journaling, and read my creativity workshop guidelines which may be helpful for you in your creative explorations and a post of creative nervousness if you are, well, nervous about diving into your creativity.
