An Apology

Even though they all seem different: starting a creative business, moving to a new country, starting a family, moving into your Dream Loft Condo, learning a new hobby…

Actually there is only one Creative Dream: To be who you really are.

You don’t want money for the sake of money or success for the sake of success.

There is something much deeper than that driving your Creative Dreams.

It’s your purpose.  Your authentic creative spirit.

I use the word magic a lot but it’s not magic at all.

The part of you that dreams the dream is the part of you that lives in a space of possibility, love and spirit.  This is your higher self or your divine spark or your creative spirit or whatever you want to call it.

This part of you dreams without limits because it knows that wrapped up inside the dream is the mechanism for it’s fulfillment.  That’s just how dreams work.

Meanwhile, here you are living in this place where dreams don’t just automatically come true.  Where things are actually really hard.  Where obstacles and fears and stuckness are solid and true and real.

And when you start moving towards your dream, doing the things you think you have to do to make it happen, you tend to run up against those very real obstacles, fears and stucknesses.  And it can start to feel impossibly hard.

The world is not always a safe place – for us or for our dreams.

Creative Dreams (like Creative Dreamers) are magic and powerful and lots of great things, but they are also delicate and vulnerable.  This is especially true when they’re new, but not only then.

This month I got so lost in the excitement of possibility and the magic of bringing dreams to life that I forget how important safety is.

And of course, because life is magic, life sent me some experiences last week to remind me.

How a lack of safety not only makes it impossible for a dream to grow but can also cause it to un-grow.

And how safety needs to be the first thing I put in the container, or else the dreams cannot grow.

So. Safety.

The Most Important Thing.

I am so sorry that I forgot this for even one second.

Without safety first, even possibility isn’t possible.

Safety can be a cloak of invisibility for when your dream is not ready to be seen.

Or a really fantastic parka when your dream is in the arctic in winter (like me!).

Or just the right teacher who teaches you just the right thing so you don’t have to figure everything out by trial and error.

Or time to work on your dream in a place where you won’t be criticized or rushed.

Or, of course, an incubator.

Safe Space for Dreamers and Dreams

Safe. Space. For Dreamers. And their Dreams.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

I am luxuriating in the magic of safety as I am opening up the Creative Dream Incubator Online Classroom today and watching it fill up with the most beautiful Creative Dreams and Dreamers. Everything from clear bright shining dreams to teeny tiny unsure and not-quite-ready-to-shine little baby dream seeds.

So beautiful they way they come together in this space of safety and nurturing and possibility.

And I am overflowing with gratitude for how much each of you trust me with your dream.  That’s huge.  HUGE!

And I promise you: your dream is safe with me.

And YOU are safe with me.

Yes, this is Big Life-Changing Dream-Growing stuff.  But we do it in ways that feel safe.  In ways that honour your tender little dream and your tender little heart and your tender little self.

I am here to help you grow your dream.  And the best place for me to do that is in the Incubator.

Registration for the Creative Dream Incubator will close tonight.

Click here to read more and to join.

If you have any questions about the Creative Dream Incubator, use the contact form on this page to send me an email.

PS: I won’t be blogging for the rest of this week – I’m keeping my focus firmly on getting my Creative Dreamers all settled into the Incubator.  Month Of Possibility posts will be back next Monday and then I have something even better in store for February.

Truer, Brighter, Sparklier + More Possible.

In Creative Dream Work we do meditation a little differently than other people do.

Of course, stillness and presence and simply being and all of the other gifts of meditation are important and needed, but when you’re bringing a dream to life you need a little something extra.  A little something a little more sparkly and fun.

It’s meditation infused with creativity and possibility and action.  Which makes the path to your dream truer, brighter, sparklier and more possible.

Creative meditation is the closest thing there is to real live magic.

The meditations in the Creative Dream Incubator lead you on adventures and journeys through your inner world, showing you, step by step, how to do the inner work of becoming the you who lives your dream – from the inside out.

My Dreams Are Possible Click here to listen now.Of course, this is a big theme from the My! Dreams! Are! Possible! teleclass.  The short answer to the question “How do I get from where I am to where the magic is?“  is to do the inner world of becoming the you who lives your dream.

(How do I get from where I am to where the magic is?” is the subject of this class – if you haven’t listened yet, listen right now!)

In the spirit of sharing the magic, today I want to share one of the meditations from the Creative Dream Incubator e-Course.

In the course we’ll do this in week three.  You’ll be amazed at how different this meditation is when you’ve got 2 weeks of foundational Dream Work under your belt before working with it.

But, for now, I wanted to share it with you as a way of seeing how far you’ve already come, 20 days into the Month of Possibility.  To see how bright and sparkly and POSSIBLE your dream feels now.

All you have to do is get comfy and listen:

(If you don’t see the video, click here)

And just notice:

Does your dream seem truer, sparklier, brighter and more possible now than it did 20 days ago?

(If  you are now ready to take some Big Steps in growing your dream – the Creative Dream Incubator e-Course starts Monday!)

This is Your Mission.

In case you’ve forgotten why we’re doing all of this possibility stuff.

(If you don’t see the video, click here)

Your dreams are important and needed in this world.

In more ways than you can know.

It’s not just about you being happy or having stuff you want to have.

It’s about Purpose + Spirit.

Big Important Stuff.

And I know you have a lot of other things screaming for your attention.  Things that feel really important right now but are not, actually, as soul-stirringly vital as Purpose + Spirit.

So let’s make it easier to bring your dreams to life amidst all of the other stuff you’ve got to do.

Your Assignment: Look for clues that show you how to make it easier to bring your dream to life.

Remember the story from Monday about bumpers that make things easier.  Explore what kinds of bumpers you can create for yourself.

You start by looking for clues (If you missed it, start by reading my blog post about looking for clues)

Look around. Literally – look around you.  Whatever jumps out at you – that’s a clue. A colour, a texture, a picture, a word, a feeling.  Clues can be anything.

Notice the first 5 things that somehow feel like clues and write them down.

Then explore them.

What do they mean?  What is their message? How can they help you make it easier to get what you want?  Journal about them. Talk to them. Find out their secrets.

You CAN do this.  And it IS easier than you think.

Making things Easier: Shortcuts. Magic. Secret invisible keys that open secret magic doors.

I was at a Bingo Glo-Bowl  party.

There were 6 lanes and a few of the lanes had kids playing at them, so they have bumpers on the lanes. (Bumpers means the kids couldn’t throw a gutterball, the ball would bounce off the bumper and stay on the lane to make it easier and more fun for the kids.)

After the first game we were re-grouped and I ended up on a different lane. A lane that some of the kids had been playing on previously. A lane with bumpers.

BINGO!

That second game, my team won.  By a lot.
I mean, of course we did! We had bumpers!

When it’s impossible to throw a gutterball, the whole game changes.

This is what possibility does.

It installs bumpers.  It creates shortcuts.  It opens doors that were previously locked shut.

This stuff is life-changing.

We start in one week! (Monday, January 23).

Register now.

The most important thing about possibility.

Earlier this week I had to do Government-office-business-registration-paperwork-type-things.

Ugh.  But, necessary.  So I got it done.

Afterwards I was surprised to discover that I felt good.  Really, truly good. I didn’t just feel “OMG I am so relieved that crapola is over with”.  I felt solid, strong and in the flow.  This is noteworthy because this is not how I am used to feeling after dealing with Government-office-business-registration-paperwork-type-things.

Usually totally drained with a mild sense of relief is the best I can hope for.

And I realised that the reason why I was feeling so good is that while I was in that office, I held my own space.  I stood strong in my Creative Superpowers.

(Oh! Come to the Creative Magic Academy Facebook page, we’re invoking Superpowers every morning and it’s awesome)

My life and my business don’t fit in with the government’s boxes and forms.

I used to see that as evidence that I’m not a “real businessperson” which made me anxious that I would never will be a “success”.

But now I see it for what it is – the system is outdated and inflexible.   And I am innovative and organic.  It’s nothing personal, we’re just not a fit.

Yes, this is about possibility.

Back then, when dealing with these kinds of things gave me a knot in my stomach, I was working really really hard to believe that my dreams were possible.  I wanted to believe that I could succeed.  That I could, one day, live my creative life and not have a side-job.

The big difference between now and then isn’t that I now live my creative life and don’t have a side-job, even though that’s true. And it’s awesome.

The big difference is that I shifted my relationship with possibility.

Less: “My dream is possible! I’m going to make it happen!”. Outer work.

More: Exploring my relationship with possibility. Inner work.

Once you’ve got a solid inner relationship with possibility – that surface stuff (like knowing that your dreams are possible and bringing them to life) works itself out.

I know – we’re also doing the My Dreams Are Possible Teleclass which seems like the opposite of what I’m saying here.  But most spiritual truths are paradoxes.  And there are many layers to possibility.

And a solid relationship with possibility isn’t something you get by reading about it.

This is something you discover and create for yourself by exploring and experimenting.

Your Assignment: Explore + Experiment.

What might help you create a more solid relationship with possibility?

Write down whatever comes to mind, and then gently push yourself to come up with more answers than you think you can find. (I make myself sit with my journal for at least 5 minutes after I’ve finished writing, just to see what else may come up)

Try them all.

Take notes. What works? What doesn’t work? What do you want to try next?

My! Dreams! Are! Possible! [Free Course]

Dreams cannot live without possibility.  This is so so so so so so so so so very very important.

And that’s why this is our theme of the month and also the theme of this month’s free class.

Until you know that your dreams are possible – they can’t move.  The seeds can’t sprout, there is no space for dreams to  grow.

But, obviously, you can’t just say “I believe my dreams are possible“and all of a sudden your whole life turns to magic.

There is more to it than that.

And that’s what we’ll be exploring in the class.  How to get from where you are to the magic.

So this class starts with you.  Your questions.  Your thoughts. Your dreams.

When you see: My! Dreams! Are! Possible!

What comes to mind?

What questions do you have?

Post your thoughts and questions in the comments below by 9am (CST) Friday, January 13.

I will answer all of the questions posted here in the course audio recording.

I will be making the recording instead of doing a live tele-class – this way we don’t have to calculate time zones and also I didn’t like the quality of the tele-class recording, I want to make you a nice-sounding recording instead.

On Monday, January 16 I’ll send the recording out to all members of the Creative Magic Academy. (If you’re not a member yet, sign up over on your right)

Emergency Post: When The Possibility Train Crashes

So yay! We’re one week into the sparkletastic Month of Possibility!  A whole month of exploring, studying and experimenting to deepen your understanding of and relationship with possibility.

Awesome.

Except, well, the part that isn’t awesome.

Because when you start to take steps towards possibility, at some point you’re going to run up against your comfort zone and that’s going to be anything but comfortable.

We’ll explore what happens with this in depth in the Creative Dream Incubator e-Course.  How and why your comfort zone can hold you back from having what you want and, much more importantly, what to do about it.

And we’ll learn techniques that stretch your comfort zone so that your dreams can fit inside it, in ways that feel safe, comfortable and do-able.

But right now what we’ll do is more of a quick fix kind of thing – because if you actually do this possibility thing all month – at some point you’re going to need this.

Here are some things to try when the Possibility Train Crashes, everything feels IMpossible  (and not in the very cute “I’m Possible!” kind of way) and you want to give up:

  • Get off the Train.  Admit that today just isn’t a good day and trying to force yourself to be positive about it isn’t helping.  Commit to doing what you can to get back on the train tomorrow, but not right now.  The possibility train crashed, get out of the wreckage before you get hurt.
  • Now that you’re off the train, practice Extreme Self-Care. When my possibility train crashed earlier this week, I made chai from scratch and then watched a silly movie.  When I used to have a job, these were the days I’d stop on the way to work to buy really luscious fruit (or chocolate!) to snack on, or bring my journal and collaging supplies so I could make collages during my coffee breaks. Check your List of Things That Lift Your Spirits. Be creative and find ways to meet yourself where you and give yourself what you need.
  • Remember that this is temporary.  Not one thing on this planet is permanent or has ever been permanent.  Why would your crappy mood be the first?
  • Spend some time in nature.  Even if you just step outside and 5 deep breaths.  Notice the sky above you and the earth beneath you and let them heal you.
  • Spend some time with your creativity.  Check out my Fabulous Free Stuff for workbooks and guided meditations that help you get into your creative zone.  Once when I was in a real funk I made a monster hat – embracing my crankiness while embracing my creativity – very satisfying!

franken-monster hat

  •  Remember the healing power of water.  Drink water and tea, take a bath or a shower or a steambath, go swimming or visit an ocean, river, lake or stream.
  • Use Magic.  Bach’s Rescue Remedy, aromatherapy, massage, Reiki, EFT, balancing herbal teas, healing circles. OMG there are so many helpful things out there.  Let them help you!
  • Move.  Walk, run, swim, play, sing, do yoga, dance, have sex.  Getting your blood flowing can sometimes be enough to shake a bad day.
  • Don’t move. Nap, meditate, spend the day in the bathtub.  There is something so satisfying about literally hiding under the covers.
  • Think about what you can do to make tomorrow a better day.  What would you-from-tomorrow-morning really love to wake up to? Fresh flowers by her bed? Tomorrow’s lunch already made and packed or an amazing breakfast cooking away in the slow cooker? A clean house? What gifts can you leave for yourself to help make it easier to get back on the possibility train tomorrow?

Above all else: remember that being in a terrible mood or not having things go the way you wanted them to does not mean that there is something wrong with you.

And it does not mean that actually what you want is NOT possible.

And it does not mean that there is something wrong with believing in possibility.

It just means you’re being in a terrible mood or things aren’t going the way you’d hoped they would or having a crap day.

Which means you’re human.

Money + Possibility. An experiment.

The Month of Possibility started on Jan 1 (if you missed it, click here to join the party).

Your first Possibility Mission is an experiment.

Experiments are important, they take theories and philosophies out of the theoretical and put them to the test in real life, your life.

Beautiful theories and philosophies and ideas are no good if they don’t actually do something positive in your life, yes?

Experiments let you measure outcomes and discover what really works for you, what just kind of works and what doesn’t work at all.

You’re going to experiment with money, because possibility is so intangible and hard to measure and money is so tangible and easy to measure.

The experiment is simple:  Starting now, you make the Goddess of Possibility your financial adviser, until the end of the month (and beyond, if it’s working for you).

And you notice how this changes things in your financial world.

I think you’ll get the most out of this experiment, and really discover what possibility can do your for your finances, if you do #1, and do it every single time you interact with money with this month.  This lets you see what possibility can do when you really give it a chance.

You really do have to commit to possibility before she will commit to you.

But, everyone is different.  The Goddess of Possibility is large and fluid and doesn’t have the same things to say to me, as she has to say to you.  So how you want to work with her may be different from how I want to work with her.  So I’m presenting some other options here so you can experiment, explore and find what works for you.

Keep in mind though, that trying something once and then giving up is not really an experiment, is it?

1. Every time you’re interacting with money or making a financial decision you stop and ask your new advisor what she has to say about it:

Hello, Goddess of Possibility, my Dear Financial Advisor.
This is what I’d like to do.  Isn’t it awesome?
This is why I love it and want it. These are some reasons why I feel unsure about spending the money, or might want to spend it on something else.
What do you think?

2. Take her out for coffee and ask her:  How would you handle money (both how it comes in and how it goes out) differently than I do?  Write down her answers and try some of them out.

3.Get her to help you make a budget.  Imagine she is sitting right there with you, giving you the most amazing advice, ever.

4. Go over your financial statements with her, ask her what she has to say about your financial ebbs and flows and where she may be able to bring more possibility in.

5. You can set up special secret meetings with her.  You can give her complete control over your bank account.  She’s here for you and will help you however you want her to.

Since this is an experiment: keep notes.  We’ll check on on this experiment at the end of the month to assess the data.

While you’re doing all of this, the most important thing to remember is this:

Do not underestimate the power of your imagination.

Seriously.  When you engage your imagination fully, you become possibility.

As you and the Goddess of Possibility work magic with your money this month, this is the larger question for you to consider:

What is more powerful, money or possibility?

What happens in your world when money is more powerful than possibility?
What happens in your world when possibility is more powerful than money?

And, of course, we’ll keep exploring possibility here for the rest of the month.  As you get more clues and ideas about possibility, the Goddess of Possibility will speak to you clearer and clearer.

Forget resolutions. Introducing a whole Month of Possibility.

We’re going to start 2012 with magic sparkles and powerful intentions.

We’re going to start 2012 with a whole Month of Possibility.

A month filled with explorations, experiments, lessons, inspirations, clue-finding missions and special goodies that help you deepen your relationship with possibility.

Possibility is oxygen for your dreams.

Possibility is the lamp that helps you move through the hard parts.

Possibility can always find a shortcut.

Possibility holds the blueprints for the larger vision of what your life can be.

The problem with possibility is that it contains so much more than it looks like it contains.

It’s not as simple, or as shortsighted, as just saying “Yes!” and shouting “I Can Do It!”

And the really magic parts are, of course, hidden.

You’ve got to really dive in and explore if you want to find them.

You’ve got to stretch yourself, and your thinking, in new ways.

It’s not an easy journey to get there.  But when you open up, from the inside out, and really let possibility in – amazing things start to happen.

The Month of Possibility gives you the space and opportunity to do just that.

All month long I’ll be posting experiments, lessons, inspirations, clue-finding missions and special goodies to help you deepen your relationship with possibility, marinate in the magic and discover what amazing things can happen for you, when you open up to possibility, from the inside out.

What to do right now, to get your Month of Possibility started:

If public accountability is helpful for you – post in the comments here that you committing to join me in this adventure. (Yay!)

If not – make a silent commitment to yourself or a (real or imaginary) friend, stuffed animal, write it in your journal or do anything that works for you.

If you want to blog your Month of Possibility, link back to this post so your readers can follow along too.  And feel free to use the Month of Possibility button (again, link it to this post please!).

And don’t forget to join the Creative Magic Academy using the form over on your right so you don’t miss any of the Month of Possibility posts.

Your first assignment is to let this marinate.

We’re talking about exploring, stretching, diving.

Discovering new territory.

This is big stuff!  And the bigger the stuff, the smaller the first steps should be.

Think about:

What could happen if you deepened your relationship with possibility?  What might change, in your inner and outer worlds?

And all month we’ll explore, do experiments and find clues that can help you find create a new, deeper and more fulfilling relationship with possibility.

Photos, Magics + Lessons Learned in my first year as a Creative Entrepreneur.

I was a little nervous about doing a year-end-review-type-thing because 2011 was so magic I worried my head would explode if I brought all of these memories together at once.

But here I am.  With head intact.

January:

I had just come back from an amazing week by the sea in La Jolla, California. Feeling refreshed and refueled and filled up and READY.

me on the beach in la jolla

I had just quit my part time job to do magic, creativity and love full time.

January 3, 2011 was the day I would have gone back to work after the holidays but instead that was the day I blew my previous record for most money earned in a day by announcing a sale on Creative Dream Coaching.

Nice way to start a new year!

Lesson Learned: Listen to your Creative Dream Fairy. Especially when she says “Now is the time, yes this will work. Do it!!”

My plan was to introduce the Creative Dream Incubator e-Course that month, as I had already been working on it for what felt like forever (starting several years ago with my in-person versions of the course).  But I realised early on that even with all of the preparations I’d done -it was not ready and I was not ready and I changed the date to March.

February + March:

I spent 6 weeks re-working the whole course and turning it into pure magic.  And then I welcomed the first Dreamers into the Incubator.

Manifestation. Magic. Miracles.

Lesson Learned: Honour your creative rhythm, listen to your intuition, trust your heart. Go slow when you need to go slow.  It’s ok to change the dates.
I want to stay here all day

I was starting to feel more comfortable in my new role as a full time creative entrepreneur and realised that I needed some new tools to do this new job properly.

First new tool: iPhone.  Shortly after I discovered and fell in love with Instagram.

Wallhanging

April + May:

Creative Collaboration.

Participated in the Wish Studio’s WishBIG e-Camp and Jamie Ridler’s Sparkles (bring your creativity to life in 5 minutes a day!).

And I opened up the Creative Dream Incubator again.

My favourite tree, the Japanese plum tree in my back yard, bloomed.
Oh I love this tree.

One day I went for a fairy walk in this fairy park.

Fairy forest magic

On the way home, my Creative Dream Fairy tapped me on the shoulder and suggested I take a different route.

We drove past a construction site that caught my eye as my Creative Dream Fairy whispered “There it is. The Ultimate Creative Magic Headquarters.” but I was all “Dude! I already have a Creative Magic Headquarters that I love! And this is bound to be too expensive! And I can’t MOVE, not NOW!?”

June + July:

June was my biggest month income wise. Also the month I spent the least time “working” and the most time exploring my inner worlds.

Lesson Learned: Those 2 things are more directly related than I thought they could be.

I also made a promise to myself to go to the beach as often as possible over the summer.

Lesson Learned: Rejuvenation really is just as important as everything else.  Without it, I can’t do my best work.  The parts of me that say I have to “earn” R+R are just plain wrong.

And I created my Creative Genius Planning Sessions.

Monday morning Creative Genius planning session.

Creativity. Vision. Magic.

These have turned into my weekly dose of Creative Dream Jet Fuel.

I met with the developer of the Ultimate Creative Magic Headquarters. Sure enough, it was everything I wished my house was. A big open 2 story loft with 18′ ceilings, huge windows, heated polished concrete floors, a little park outside with a tiny bridge that leads to my door. I couldn’t have come up with a more perfect design myself.

I discussed selling my house with my Real Estate Agent and sure enough, my house could sell for more than the asking price on the condo.

Lesson Learned: You are more ready for the BIG dream than you know you are.

I ran my Creative Journal Magic e-Course in June and it was super popular, super magic and super fun.

I stopped selling my old Meditation Kits and started selling the new Magic Potions (follow the link for a free sample).

It's OK
There is creative magic in you.

I created a new kit called Dream Spark which was in the 21 Secrets Workshop at the Dirty Footprints Studio (and will be available as a kit in the Creative Magic Academy in January).

Somewhere in there I also re-designed the Create a Map That Leads to your Dream Creativity Kit.

It was already an amazing tool for bringing dreams to life but I made it about 14X more awesome.  I added a second workbook and a series of 14 audio sessions, including guided meditations to activate your Creative Spirit, and help you attune to the subtle signals and synchronicities that the universe is serving up, to help your Dream come true (53.2 minutes in total, with lots of breather space in between for working on your map).

And I kept it the same price!  Magic!

Lesson Learned: I can accomplish so much more than I knew!

One of the funny things about being self employed is that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my hair.

In July I started to really experiment.
Trying to pick my new haircolour. So many to choose from!
Pink hair in pink room.Purple hair.
More pink hair (starting to get used to it)Re-Bleaching.

August:

This is where ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE

I had a lot of meetings with the developer of the Ultimate Creative Magic Headquarters and finally in August we nailed down an agreement. Each time I spoke to him he had a different projected completion date.  My intuition said to sell my house right away.

And I discovered my house was not really market-ready. You know all those little things you just learn to live with?  They become very visible when you put your house on the market!

I hired a legion of helpers and my mom came over every day for a week and we whipped the house into shape. The house sold in under 2 weeks for a little over the asking price.
It's official!

And in the process I got rid of 1/2 of my things.  At the time it was kind of arduous to go through everything and haul so much stuff away but at this point I AM SO GRATEFUL TO ME FROM THEN FOR DOING ALL OF THAT.

Freedom. Flow. Simplicity.

And I created the Creative Magic Academy,  a whole new website for my creative courses, including private online space for classes, and a new affiliate program.

And I ran a session of the Rainbow~licious Creative Healing Circle (because, hello! I needed it! August was one busy month!)
Meanwhile, my amazing hollyhocks bloomed.
Hello hollyhock! My hollyhock fence is in bloom. Yay!

September:

I said goodbye to my dear sparkly house on Sept 1.

The shade of pink that makes me smile. (my bathroom wall)
Messy messy art table.
Bliss room.
Bliss room.
Bathroom door mural.
Happy kitchen.
Dressing room.
Welcome.
Beautiful day in my garden.

And I moved into a tent.

Yes, a tent. In my parent’s back yard.

My new home. I slept so great last night!

And I loved it. And I slept better than I’ve ever slept.

I did yoga under the stars before bed. I breathed fresh air all night long. I had a front row seat for thunderstorms while staying cozy warm with my giant pile of duvets and pillows.

Lesson Learned: Once again, listen to intuition no matter how crazy it sounds!

And, from my tent in my parent’s back yard, I ran a very special one-time-only session of the Creative Dream Incubator – the Creative Business Incubator.

It wasn’t just a course – it was a cross between a course and group coaching with me answering all questions in depth depth depth on video every week. We explored possibility and magic and being true to yourself while building a profitable business.

It was magic.

Lesson Learned: I love small, advanced, specialized courses and want to explore more ways of doing this kind of thing.

October + November:

I took my Creative Journal Magic e-Course and turned it into a kit. I did this for 2 reasons:

1. This is good good good awesomely good stuff! I wanted to make it more accessible for people don’t have to wait for the next course to start.
2. This is all the basic stuff. As I learned in September, I want my classes to be more advanced and specialized. Turning this class into a kit, it can be a prerequisite so I can focus on creating the advanced specialized classes.

Which is what I did next: Give Your Inner Critic a New Job

Advanced Specialized Creative Magics.

That classroom is still open and miracles are still happening and I am in love with it.

[Actually: I am in love with it pretty much sums up this year.]

At the end of October and beginning of November I was in Portland, Oregon for a life changing retreat/course with Havi Brooks.
Fall walk
The Grilled Cheese bus
In the playground
Creative superhero

I got back from Portland and spent a day working with Alexandra Franzen, brilliant wordsmith, to clarify my focus and re-write my website. Which is about a lot more than re-writing my website, of course.

It was about taking all of the things I have learned and transformed this year and pouring it into how I present myself and my work.

Lessons Learned: There are Brilliant People out there who can help. Let them. Take courses. Hire coaches and helper-people. It makes a big difference.

December:

By late fall, I’d earned the money I wanted to earn this year with my business. So I was kind of free to try new things.

Like Free! Tele! Classes!

I was also free to just spend some quality time with me and work on ways of integrating everything I’d just learned in Portland.  That retreat with Havi really changed things for me.

I am certified and accredited in several different modalities of healing, transformation and manifestation.  I have attended a LOT of courses, workshops and retreats. And I have never seen anything that is anything like what Havi did.

It’s like it took everything I knew and put it into a snowglobe. In the snowglobe, everything I knew turned into glitter. Turn it upside down and shake it good. Put it back down and look! There is a tiny magic village in there that didn’t exist before.

That tiny magic village is made up of what I already knew. And it contains everything I do.

But it’s also totally different.  And totally new!

As I keep saying to my friends “This is the best thing I’ve ever learned!”  And it’s not because of what it is, it’s because of what it is inspiring me to do and how it is inspiring me to live, and to be.

Exciting Changes Ahead.

In December I opened registration for the January session of the Creative Dream Incubator (I only plan to run this once in 2012).

And I started creating a whole new structure for how I do my work. I’m taking a lot of Alexandra’s brilliant ideas and weaving them into the 2012 Creative Magic Academy Calendar.

THINGS I WANT TO DO DIFFERENTLY IN 2012:

Early in 2011 I was doing some online advertising. I haven’t done it in some time and don’t plan to do any advertising in 2012. I don’t want to focus on finding new people. I want to focus on making more magic.

Over the course of the year I kept experimenting with my Creativity 101 e-course. I plan to stop doing that. I love Creativity 101 and I love all of the emails I get about how much it has helped people. I want that material to stay free and available, and it is, right here. And I want to focus my creative energy on the more advanced magic stuff in my paid courses.

As part of that shift in Creativity 101, I brought my email list and blog subscriptions together. This is step 1. Step 2 starts in January with a shift in my blog.

I’ll still share my own stories and experiences but I’ll also have much more of a structure, with monthly themes and more teaching posts that go with our monthly tele-classes. This makes the blog a much bigger part of the Creative Magic Academy. That also plays into my desire to do more advanced magic stuff in my courses. If you’re reading the blog you’re getting the basics and when you sign for a class you’re ready for Big Magic.

I’m fooling around with my schedule and really listening to what I learned in June of this year when I made way more money by spending way more time working in my internal world, than in the external world. I’m building tools and creating practices that help with this, and at the same time putting together an Advanced Creative Dreaming/Creative Super Hero/Creative Badass course where I share these tools.

THINGS I WANT TO DO THE SAME IN 2012:

I love how many kits/courses I created this year. I’d be very happy to be as productive in 2012.

I love the relationships I’ve developed with my inner critics, inner fears and various sad scared selves. In 2011 I gave these relationships much more attention and love than I ever have before. I want to continue my creative practices that allows me to engage with all parts of me with love and gentleness and permission and space.

Creative Journaling The Big But

I love the way I have become comfortable sharing honestly and openly where I’m at. More openness and real true stories!

I love the way I made big, life-changing decisions based on: 1. intuitive guidance and 2. bringing myself into greater alignment and integrity with what I know to be important (creativity, magic, freedom, healing, transformation and possibility). Even when these decisions don’t seem “practical” (like selling my duplex and giving up my rental income) they are so right (practical is nowhere on my list of things that are important).

Early on my in 2011 I created a map leading to the income I wanted. I played with this map for a few months and eventually painted over everything with blue waves representing flow. I wrote on the waves “New Financial Plan = Trust”. I want to continue to place my trust in trust.

Working outside on beautiful days. Yes! More!
Best office ever

Oh yes. That's the ticket.

Creative Journaling is Magic. The more I do it the magic-er it gets.  So lots more Magic Creative Journaling for me in 2012.
Today's Journaling.

From today's blog post.

This year has been one heck of an amazing ride.

Thanks so much for being here with me.

I promise – next  year is going to be even better.

Thank you elephant. ( today's success card)

Your dream is just the right size.

Everyone secretly worries that their dream is too wacky, too bold, too ambitious, too expensive, too [insert fear-triggered, self-created obstacle here].

I’ve been studying & teaching the art of wish-fulfillment for fifteen years, and I’ve got the BEST news:

Everyone is wrong!

Unless your dream involves a pet unicorn, the ability to breathe underwater, or a new planet of your very own (and a moon to go with it), it IS possible.

And the best time to start making it REAL is right now.

How to be an Advanced Creative Dreamer

We all started as muggles.

Well that’s not actually true.  We all started as shining infinite beings of pure potential.   But that’s another story.  In general, we start our adult lives as muggles.

Luckily and happily – its very easy for a muggle to discover magic.  There are clues everywhere.

Hey! I can create things!  I can make things happen in my life! I can choose my own path!

And then the muggle becomes a Student of Magic.

Exploring the wild and wonderful new worlds.

Self-Discovery.

Wish-Fulfillment.

Visualizations, ritual, positive thinking. New age retreats and special, secret magic tools.

It’s exciting and amazing and OMG I CAN CREATE THINGS! I CAN MAKE THINGS HAPPEN IN MY LIFE! I CAN CHOOSE MY OWN PATH!

But the thing is, the Student of Magic is still living the muggle’s life.

Of course, with each new discovery, they bring something new into that life.

Sparkly magic wonderful things.  But these things end up within the container of the muggle life.

Are you seeing how this is problematic?

Not all magic things play well with muggle things.  At some point the Student of Magic has to decide:

Are you going to limit yourself to just the magic that plays nice with your muggle things?

Or…

Are you going to take the next step and create that life that is made out of magic?

The next step: The Advanced Practitioner of Magic

This is where it’s time to overthrow the confines of the muggle container and create an entirely new structure for your life.

And what got you to this step will not get you through it.

(I wish someone had told me that when I got to this step!)

All I knew is that the things that used to work started to not work.  And spaces that used to feel comfortable started to feel confining.

This is where things start to get messy.

Creativity and destruction play hand in hand.  This is the part where destruction takes over.

The old systems and structures, the ones that supported your muggle life, need to be destroyed in order to build new systems and structures that support your creative dream life.

This is the messy, awkward, scary part.

And this is why I am a Creative Dream Coach.

I’ve been there. I can help.

I can make it less messy, less awkward and less scary.

I can even make it more fun, more magic and more sparkly.

There are two ways that I can help:

1. The Creative Dream Incubator e-Course: a glitter-dusted group experience with everything you need to get your dreams in motion. Next session starts January 23, 2012.

>>> You can read all about the Creative Dream Incubator here.

2. Creative Dream Coaching: everything from the Creative Dream Incubator plus personal, intensive, me-first attention (no shame! It’s a good thing). You can start whenever you like (right now I’m booking Creative Dream Coaching sessions starting in mid-January 2012).

>>> You can read all about Creative Dream Coaching here.

Seriously. You’re ready. Let’s do this thing!

PS: I’m going to skip our weekly Creative Dream Check-In Post this week.  So last week’s check-in is now a magical timeless check-in that you can use over the holidays any time you need to check in with your dream.  I’m going to un-plug and re-focus my energy inwards as I put the final touches on my supermagic plan for world domination in 2012.

You. Can. Do. Anything.

Every Friday we check in with our dreams to find out what they need to keep growing.  The Creative Dream Check-In questions seem small, but asking them every week is completely magical. So let’s get started.

  • Where am I today in relation to my dream? Or if you are using a map, ask yourself: Where am I on the map today?
  • How does that feel?
  • What does my dream need?
  • What do I need?

We’re about to be given a fresh shiny new year.

Open and free. Nothing but possibility.

It’s important to think about what you want to fill it with and make ridiculously amazing plans.

You. Can. Do. Anything.

There is a palpable energy of possibility in the air right now.

I love it!

And I did my first tele-class! And it was all about harnessing and directing that possibility.

Yes!

I have wanted to do this for about a year. A YEAR!

One of the problems of being highly creative is that you always have more to do than you have time to do.  So some things that are actually pretty simple end up taking A YEAR to put together.

But I am so glad I finally did it! I really loved how there were people from all over the world on the call and that I got actually talk to some of you! Yay!

And the best part is that now that I’ve done it it’s easy to keep doing it.  So we’re going to do it again in January! Yay!

And remember that horrible task I wrote about on Monday?

Funnily enough, later in the week I came across an opportunity to do the same thing, but in a different way.  And yes – this feels like an opportunity and not a horrible task!

Funny how when you let go of things that don’t work, things that can work flow right in to fill that space.

Also! Oh my gosh!  I’m getting ready for the next session of the Creative Dream Incubator.  It starts January 23.

>>> Read all about it and register right here.

And I’ve been doing a lot of exploring, researching and experimenting.

Getting everything I need in place, for the next stage of growing my dreams.  I’m imagining that I’m a gardener and my dreams are tomato plants.  I am creating the perfect cage/structures for the plants to grow on.

In the process I’m asking “What do I need?” and “What do my dreams need?” about 50 times a day and it’s AWESOME.

And I wanted to share this fun new thing from Aspindle: Free! Creativity Wallpapers for your iPhone!

Even though I am totally not a “quote person”, I love these inspiring quotes filled with important reminders.  Little things like this can really help you stay inspired and on track throughout the day.

Want to share your check-in?

Everyone’s dreams grow more fully and beautifully when we grow them together in our creative community dream garden.

You are welcome to do your check in in the comments or in your journal or silently on your own. Or just pop in and say hello and let us know what you’re up to.

You don’t need gazillions of dollars, a wall of fancy degrees, or superhuman powers (other than the ones you already have!) to make your dream come true.  You just need a space to nurture and accelerate your dream, from inception to expression to fruition.

You need a Creative Dream Incubator.

No matter what is happening right now: this will help you!

So yay! Today’s the day! The first Creative Magic Academy Tele-Class!

Whooooooo!

And there is one thing I need to explain to help you get the most out of the class. This one thing that doesn’t quite fit in the class, it’s something you’ll work on after, with what you did in the class:

Finding clues.

This is something I learned from Havi and it’s amazing.

There are clues everywhere and they are here to help you. To find them all you have to do is stop and look and for them. Look around – whatever catches your eye – that’s a clue, or even a cleeeeewwwwww.

Keep track of the clues. Follow the clues. Talk to the clues. They can tell you a lot.

So about five mornings in a row, I woke up imagining I was a bear.

A very soft, silky bear. In a soft, cushy cave. Having a gorgeous winter hibernation. And I’d wake up, imagine I was this bear, I say to myself “No need to get up, you’ve got a few months of hibernating to do still!” and smile and snuggle in to my soft cozy cushy bed.

I have no idea where this came from. I don’t normally even think about bears.

But I was just loving this new way of waking up and becoming more and more fascinated with bears.

I read wikipedia to find out that bears don’t actually hibernate, technically they just sleep a lot.  And I thought “Wow! I’m closer to being a bear than I knew!”

This must be a clue.

I was inspired to do old school style research to learn more about this clue. At the library.

There were a lot of wonderful and inspiring and adorable bear books at the library, but I got most of my information from the Great Bear Almanac by Gary Brown.

The first item of interest being:

Early discovery of bear skeletal material, found in the caves of central Europe, were thought to be from unicorns and dragons, as well as bears.  Considered of medicinal value, the material was pulverized and utilized in medieval pharmacies…

Unicorns! Dragons!

Magic! Bears are Magic!

And yes, bears have long been considered magical beings. They have been thought to: be half-human, have mystical powers, be able to tell the future and be able to determine patterns of life. They are associated with healing and shamanism and initiation into secret societies.  Specifically, initiation rites are associated with hibernation.

Which makes sense, hibernation = to die and be reborn.

Hibernation (I know wikipedia said it’s not true but in the almanac, bears do hibernate) is also dangerous. Weakened, diseased or elderly bears may not survive. Also juvenile bears who don’t have enough experience to understand what preparations are needed in order to survive may not survive.

Of course, I’m not giving you the whole bear story here, I’m sharing the parts that leaped off the pages and felt like clues for me.

This gives me a fun, magical framework for understanding and relating to this time period where I kind of am hibernating and also for seeing how valuable this transition period can be for me.

So it feels less like I am waiting for my dream loft to be built and more like I am being initiated into a magical secret society.

Which changes everything about everything I am doing right now.

Clues can tell you a lot.

The clues I see in the bear books can be completely different from the clues you’ll see.

That’s the magic of the cleeeewwwwws.

It’s just for you and it will lead you to exactly what you need, right now.

Try it!

Look around you. What stands out?

That’s a clue. Explore it.

You don’t need gazillions of dollars, a wall of fancy degrees, or superhuman powers (other than the ones you already have!) to make your dream come true.  You just need a space to nurture and accelerate your dream, from inception to expression to fruition.

You need a Creative Dream Incubator.

What to do when nothing is working.

There’s this thing that’s been on my to-do list for some time.

It’s about growing my business.  It’s one of those things that all the experts say you’re “supposed to do” to grow your online business.  And it’s an easy enough thing for me to do, it’s just that I don’t do it.  And every time I try to do it – something gets in the way.

So I finally decided I’d been putting this off long enough, and I sat down to do it.  For real this time.

And, almost immediately, it made me frustrated and angry and I couldn’t get anywhere.

So I stopped.

I had lunch, I knitted, I drank tea.  I went back to it and it made me even more upset.

So I stopped, again.

This time I meditated.  I asked to see the part of me that wanted to get this thing done and the part of me who was resisting.

I saw a jailhouse.

With an angry jailer standing up, leaning forward on the table, yelling at a small, terrified woman.

The jailor was the me who wanted to get this thing done.

The small, terrified woman was the me who was terrified of doing it.  It was kind of like she was sentenced for a crime she did not commit.  She was terrified and didn’t know what to do.

I joined them as wise peaceloving me.

The jailor sat down.  The small terrified woman grew so we were all the same size. I said “Surely we can work this out in a way that works for all of us.”

We held hands and then the jailhouse was gone.  We were in a beautiful forest.  The air was clear and clean and sparkling.

We listened to the jailor who talked about how important it is to do this thing.  Underneath what she was saying were all of these fears about how if we don’t do this thing, everything will fall apart.

We listened to the previously small terrified woman talk about how she gets all tangled up when she tries to do this thing and how trying to do it actually keeps her from being able to do anything.  Underneath what she was saying was the simple truth that this task shut down her creative genius and she didn’t know of anything that could be done about it.

And I wasn’t sure what to do.

First I agreed that we simply can’t do this task.

But that whisked us all back into the jail and made the jailor come back, only this time both me and the small terrified woman were cowering as she screamed and threw things.

So, OK.  We can’t just drop it.

Erasing it from the to-do list does not erase jailor-me’s concerns that this is the only way to get what we want.

So negotiations are needed.

What can we do instead, that works for everyone, that gets the same result as this problematic task?

First I had to get jailor-me to agree that it could perhaps maybe be possible that there is another task we can do that gets the same results.

But of course, she doesn’t have any ideas for what this other task could be.

Small, terrified me is too creatively scarred to come up with anything.

I’m kind of tired from all of this and can’t come up with any ideas either.

But at this point we all agree that there could even be a task that would work better than this one and be easier – we just don’t know what it is.

So we agreed to keep looking for it.  And to keep this other task on the table until the new task is found, so that no one freaks out about us being taskless.

At that point I had to go out and get a latte.

I brought my laptop and started playing with ideas and this new plan was born.

At first, I didn’t recognize it as the new task to replace this icky task because it doesn’t even feel like a task.  It feels like play and light and creativity and joy and generosity and clarity.

Then I brought it back to the other two to see what they thought.

This is when I learned that small, terrified me doesn’t even have opinions.  All she really wants is for this to not be so terrifying.

So I wanted to build her a beautiful soft room to live in.  With soft sunlight sparkling in through big windows, and soft delicate furnishings.  And a tiny magical door where everything she needs just comes to her right when she needs it and there is nothing to be scared of, ever.

But jailor me wants to keep her here because she is me who is easiest to control.

And then I realise – well I should have given the task to someone else!  Maybe then we wouldn’t even be in this situation!  And also – jailor me needs a new job!

Getting things back on track.

Jailor me likes being a jailor.  Making sure people stay in line.  She is 100% in support my secret mission and is going to make sure everyone does what needs to be done to complete the mission.

She really wants to kick people’s asses and make people do their work.

This is problematic because kicking asses doesn’t really fit with creative magic or creative flow or creative dreams.

I can’t think of anything in my inner world that would benefit from the addition of more discipline.

But, she’s here and she’s a part of me so she’s important and valuable and there must be a place where she is exactly what is needed.

So I ask her, if I could build her a perfect room to live in what would it be like?

Just a simple place to rest.  She’s tired.

Oh.

But in order for her to actually go be in that room and rest, she would have to trust that someone else has a handle on things out here.  That someone else will make sure things get done because she really, really wants to take care of me and she’s concerned about all the time I spend resting, or doing things like I am doing right now – instead of getting this task done.

So, if her room had some strategic planning equipment she could stay in there and rest and create a really awesome plan for the secret mission and rest and be happy.

Ahhhh relief.  Everything started to loosen up.

Terrified me was then free to go to her soft sparkling room where there was nothing to be terrified of.

Jailor me turned into strategic planner me and went to her strategic planning headquarters.

And here I am, in the forest, by myself, with this task.

I’d pick it up, but it’s really sharp and ugly.

This isn’t something I want in my kingdom.  This is exactly what I don’t want here!

Which tells me what to replace it with: it’s opposite.

Ease and beauty.

Ease and beauty are what I need to get the results that I want.

So I look back to the new plan I made.

And I see that actually this plan creates ease in my business.  And it is an avenue for beauty.  And it doesn’t freak me out to do it.

So that task is officially off the table.  And the new plan is officially my new plan. Yay!

And now I can quietly happily peacefully get stuff done, and the stress and frustration and stuckness is gone.

It is magic what happens when you go into your inner world, explore what is there, and move things around.

It’s the best way of creating space outside of you for more of the things you want.

And that’s what we’re going to be doing together on Wednesday in the Open Sesame Tele-Class!  The class is free for all members of the Creative Magic Academy (click on the link to become a member if you’re not one yet!) and it’s going to be so fun!

I hope you can be there live on the phone!

It’s this Wednesday, Dec 14 at 2pm CST (click here to see what time this is in your time zone).

You don’t need gazillions of dollars, a wall of fancy degrees, or superhuman powers (other than the ones you already have!) to make your dream come true.  You just need a space to nurture and accelerate your dream, from inception to expression to fruition.

You need a Creative Dream Incubator.

>>> Next session starts Jan 23.

Your answers are inside of you

The Creative Dream Check-In questions seem small, but asking them every week is completely magical. And it works. This process grows dreams. So let’s get started. The questions are:

  • Where am I today in relation to my dream? Or if you are using a map, ask yourself: Where am I on the map today?
  • How does that feel?
  • What does my dream need?
  • What do I need?

This was a week of endings and beginnings and change change change.

Registration closed on the Give Your Inner Critic a New Job e-Course and registration opened on the Creative Dream Incubator e-Course. And I am getting ready to start a new series of free tele-classes. (Starting on Wednesday! Weee! I hope you’ll be there!)

And in times of change, which is basically all the time, these questions are even more important.

The value in checking in comes in really truly exploring where you are and what you need.  Not giving quick answers but really letting the questions in, following them in, and exploring.  Talking to your dream to find out what it wants.

All of your answers are inside you.

Everything you need to do anything you want is inside you. There! Are! Treasures! Within! So many treasures!

But if you’re focused outside of you or caught up in routines or busy-ness or whatever – you’ll never find that stuff.

It can take an incredible amount of exploring to find the treasures.

But if you’re not connected with to your inner treasures everything kind of falls apart so whatever time and energy this takes – this is time and energy well spent.

What I’m working on now is building new mines that can dig into the deeper layers of the treasures within.

It feels like I’ll need this for my next adventure which is, at this point, a secret mission.

So this week I created new systems for my secret mission.

Which inspired a total re-structure of my Creative Genius Planning Session tools.

Both of which are housed in clear envelopes in my Filofax organiser filled with mini cards and booklets and reminders and plans and maps and superpowers.

My Secret Mission is becoming clearer and clearer.

The superfantastic thing about creative journaling, or in this case creative Filofaxing, is that you get to spend time marinating in the creative energy of your dream.

This is such a great way to explore the questions.  It creates an opening where unexpected answers can come through.

This works even when you don’t know what to do, or how to do it.

Which is where I was for much of this week.  It’s hard to know what to do when so much is changing and that’s ok.

So I stayed with it and I did what I felt inspired to do.  Paint this green.  Paint that orange.  Write this word in gold glitter and that word in thick purple marker.

It is amazing what you can learn from this.

It’s like creating fertile ground all around you where inspiration and ideas can just pop right in.

So I played and then I got inspiration and ideas and I did this and I did that.

How does that feel?

Really fun and exciting.

Also I am encountering a lot of small scared selves who don’t like this new deeper mining business.  And who certainly don’t like secret missions.  They do like solid plans and reasonable reasons for doing what I am doing and they really wish I’d do more “real work”.

So I’m spending lots of time with them and giving them new jobs as Safety and Stability Officers at the new mine.

What does my dream need?

For me to remember that when I don’t know what to do,that doesn’t mean I can’t do anything.  I can just sit down and play with whatever I feel like playing with.  To remember that something good and important and useful will always come out of that.

Remembering.  Faith.  Enthusiasm.  Creativity.  Play.  Reverence.  Space.

And the secret mission needs the dream loft.  They are linked together somehow.

What do I need?

Extreme self care.  Delicious essential oil blends and loads of lush baths and eggnog lattes and knitting. Green smoothies and yoga and silly hats.

To remember my supowerpowers.

To talk to my dreams more often.

Want to share your check-in?

Everyone’s dreams grow more fully and beautifully when we grow them together in creative community.

(Good thing it exists!)

The Creative Dream Incubator is a six-week wish-fulfillment master class to help you GROW YOUR DREAM, by guiding you through every stage of the Creative Dream Process. >>> Next session starts Jan 23.
